Clinical Management of Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders

This is a two hour CPD course part of the CPD Monthly Membership. It will be released in the beginning of July 2026 This 100% online, two-hour CPD course moves beyond the simplistic "double-jointed" label to explore the complex reality of heritable connective tissue disorders. Designed specifically for remedial massage therapists, myotherapists, and Bowen therapists, this program shifts your clinical perspective away from a traditional, purely structural approach and towards a sophisticated, nervous system-led model of care. Rather than teaching hands-on techniques, this course prioritises high-level clinical reasoning, advanced assessment frameworks, and systemic screening. You will learn how microscopic alterations in collagen synthesis create a profound "proprioceptive gap." This is where the joints fail to send clear signals to the brain, forcing the nervous system to use high muscular tone and protective guarding as a functional substitute for lax ligaments. If you "smash" these tight muscles without a stability strategy, you risk stripping your client of their only remaining defense mechanism. What We Cover: -The Diagnostic Spectrum: We dissect the 2017 International Classification system so you can confidently differentiate between Asymptomatic Laxity, Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD), and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). -Advanced Assessment: Discover how to integrate validated clinical tools—like the 5-Part Questionnaire (5PQ)—to capture historical hypermobility when physical testing is inconclusive. -The Systemic Connection: Understand the multi-systemic nature of hypermobility, including its links to gut dysmotility, chronic fatigue, and autonomic nervous system dysfunction. By understanding your client's overall physiological load, you will be perfectly equipped to design "stability-first" management plans that build genuine, long-term structural resilience.
